Bluebird Birth is hiring!

about us

Bluebird Birth began because there was a huge gap in the world of holistic and "other" birthwork- that is, birthwork for marginalized and underserved people, and it's left a massive gap in the care, support, and education available for those in communities who wouldn't be able to afford that level of experience, or wouldn’t feel welcome in the typical environment, which is often who needs the education and support the most.

So, we work with LGBTQ+, BIPOC, neurodivergent, immigrant, solo parents, disabled parents, those who are struggling with addiction or in recovery, poly families, basically anything you could imagine that doesn’t fit the typical white-cis-hetero clients in the holistic birth world (we still work with them, too!). Roughly 80% of our clients qualify for public aid, and we operate using a tier-based payment system based on need. We hope to become an integral part of the birth community that meets a need and fills a gap unlike any other organization. You can learn more about our mission.

About You

You are, in a nutshell, compassionate, understanding, willing to learn, able to keep personal preference and bias aside, comfortable and happy to work with people from all backgrounds, races, orientations, genders, family makeups, and life statuses, flexible & dependable, and able to take change and direction in stride. Current experience or training is not required but welcome. In order to work on your own, we require: training in specific doula field by Cornerstone Doula Trainings (or similar), up to two shadowed/certifying births or shifts, and CPR/First Aid Certification, and a background check.

Role Descriptions

Full Spectrum Doula

A full spectrum doula offers pregnancy, birth, postpartum, infant feeding, pregnancy/infant loss, and abortion support. They are on call for 2 weeks prior to the estimated due date and 2 weeks after an estimated due date, but likely will share a call schedule with another team member, splitting those 4 weeks total into ~15 days on-call time. Support can look like: providing a listening ear for any emotional, physical, and mental support during any applicable situation, providing education and advocation for procedures, informed choices, and situations, assisting in evaluation of infant feeding needs, and assisting in childbirth education courses led by our founder.

Postpartum Doula

A postpartum doula offers postpartum support to a family who has had a baby within the last 12 weeks. They work scheduled shifts ranging from 2-6 hours in length that can be either daytime or overnight dependent upon family needs. Support can look like: helping with household chores, meals, taking care of baby, facilitating rest and nourishment, and providing a listening ear for any emotional and mental support.

Sibling Doula

A sibling doula offers a very unique skillset that is needed for our solo parents/low support system clients. They are on call for 2 weeks prior to the estimated due date and 2 weeks after an estimated due date to be able to assist the family with childcare for their other children, so that their support system can attend their birth without worry of safety or financial constraints of childcare.
